A recognized standards developer

NCEES is a standards development organization with the American National Standards Institute. ANSI is the U.S. representative to the International Organization for Standardization. Its membership includes more than 100,000 government agencies, corporations, and academic and international bodies.

Recognized MLE and MLS standards

ANSI currently recognizes two NCEES standards. The Model Law Engineer standard describes the criteria for licensure as a professional engineer. The Model Law Surveyor standard outlines the requirements for licensure as a professional surveyor. The criteria for both standards are divided into education, professional experience, and examinations.

MLSE standard under review

NCEES submitted a Model Law Structural Engineer draft standard in 2009. After the proposed standard underwent a period of public review, NCEES amended it based on comments received concerning the definition of the practice of structural engineering. It republished the amended MLSE proposed standard in October 2011.

The NCEES Standards Development Manual outlines the procedures in conformance with the ANSI Essential Requirements for accreditation as an ANSI standards developer and provides guidance to participants in the NCEES standards development process.
