How NCEES Records works

Contents of a record

  • Relevant educational transcripts
  • Employment verifications
  • Reference letters
  • Exam scores

Fees

  • Application fee: $150 ($100 if you have been licensed less than one year)
  • Transmittal fee: $60 per recipient
  • Annual renewal fee: $25
  • Reinstatement of inactive record: $25 per year of inactivity, not to exceed $125

Timeframes

In most cases, it takes 2–3 months to establish a record with NCEES. The time depends upon verification of the information you provide. If your references are slow to respond to verification requests, it could take longer.

It normally takes 3–5 business days to process requests for record transmittals.

State-specific information

Most state licensing boards accept the entire NCEES record. Others accept only parts of the record and require additional information from applicants.

State acceptance of a record

Candidates applying for licensure in Georgia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Puerto Rico, or Rhode Island must establish an NCEES record before applying. In these cases, NCEES will waive the transmittal fee to the particular state requiring the NCEES record. Already established record holders are still required to pay the transmittal fee.

Renewing your record

Maintaining an active record requires annual renewal. One year after establishing your record, NCEES will send you a reminder e-mail. This is also the time to update your information if it has changed.
