CPC Requirements by Jurisdiction: Iowa Engineering


CPC Requirements:   Mandatory
Number of PDH required per period:   30
Renewal Term:   biennial
Carryover from one renewal period to the next:   up to 15
Comity:   A person licensed to practice engineering or land surveying or both in Iowa shall be deemed to have complied with the continuing education requirement of this state during the periods that the person is a resident of another state or district which has a continuing education requirement for engineers or land surveyors and the individual meets all requirements of that state or district for practice therein. However, if selected for compliance review, such individuals must provider documentation.
Record keeping and submission requirements:   Maintaining records to be used to support professional development hours claimed is the responsibility of the licensee. It is recommended that each licensee keep a log showing the type of activity claimed, sponsoring organization, location, duration, instructor's or speaker's name, and PDH credits earned.
Provider approval required by state board:   No
State-specific requirements:   PDH Credits are divided into two categories. Group 1 activities are intended to maintain, improve, or expand skills and knowledge obtained prior to initial licensure. There is a limit to the number of Group 1 activities per renewal period. Group 2 activities are intended to develop new and relevant skills and knowledge. Credit for these activities is unlimited, subject to maximum carryover. To be readily acceptable by the board, independent study must meet certain criteria.
